Yellow Split Pea Soup Recipe

Friday 16 March 2018

500g (2 cups) yellow dried split peas, washed and soaked in water overnight
5 - 6 cups water
1 large onion chopped
3 carrots chopped
1 small turnip chopped (optional)
salt and pepper to taste
Mixed herbs (optional)

  • Place the split peas with the vegetables in a large saucepan and cover well with water.
  • Bring to the boil, reduce to a simmer and cook for about an hour until the peas are soft and starting to go a bit mushy.
  • I used a blender to make this into more of a smooth soup
  • season well and enjoy on its own or with crusty bread
This works out at 18p (25 cents) per portion and makes 7 portions

Every Blessing,
